Guy Pearce (Snow) and Maggie Grace (Emilie) on the cover? Why not. Heard being referred toDie Hard 'in space'. Offers a comforting 95 minute action movie that we haven't heard too much negative over. Pearce portrays an overwritten hero, who reminds me of humorously of his character Leonard (Memento) who suffers from short term memory loss. With his quick witty and immature responses to life threatening news I cannot help but see a kid in a candy shop. A free playground for a guy who can dish it outhardhe can take it. Oh yeah…he's also on a one man mission to remove the DOPOTUS (Daughter of The President of the United States?) from a high security orbiting Death Star of a prison in space. Hmm.<br/><br/>However, the movie is worth a watch. Decent entertainment, the first scene where Pearce meets his pal Rupert is especially captivating. Lockout's fast pace drowns the sense of threat while Snow remains a reason to stay, promising a John McLane imitation. Alas, watch the movie and judge for yourself. I'm sure their target audience is satisfied.
Whilst watching this I had a nagging feeling I had seen it all before… and I had! It's 'Escape From New York' set is space! The trouble is, it's notgood'Escape From New York' despite being set in space. It's well put together with the exception of the CGI, which looked pretty ropy particularly at the beginning of the film. Performance-wise, well everyone was OK with nobody particularly standing out. I did think Guy Pearce does need to have a word with his agent though, he's much better than this. Guy Pearce met with Luc Besson at the beginning of 2010 in LA to discuss the film and then met with Stephen St. Leger and James Mather a few months later. He thought the script felt original, which is always what he is looking for. He also liked the idea of playing an irreverent character like Snow. He was drawn to him because he's not the typical action hero. He exhibited a lazy and exhausted quality.It has quite some tradition that some of writer/producer Luc Besson's movies get censored for a more profitable PG-13 rating. The censorship for the PG-13 rating is obviously no unknown territory for the filmmakers in Besson's team since they managed to take the edge off it very well by applying almost every tool one could think of. Next to using harmless alternate takes or simply cutting something out, the PG-13 also delivers a censored dialogue, audio line and even digitally manufactured visual alterations (and maybe even blood that's not quiteredit is normally). A lot of effort to make a film that is usually aiming at experienced B-action buffs suitable for teenagers.
